Description
Workshop Number 21007
CWMA Webinar: Long-Term Invasive Winter Annual Grass and Noxious Weed Control Facilitates Ecosystem, Pollinator, and Wildlife Habitat Restoration.
This webinar is approved for 1 CE credit in Rangeland Pest Control (107).
Synopsis:
Invasive annual grasses (cheatgrass, feral rye, jointed goatgrass) and other noxious weeds along the Colorado Front Range negatively impact natural areas and rangelands at a landscape scale. Over the past 9 years studies have been conducted along the Colorado Front Range to identify the most effective tools for successful ecosystem restoration. Research studies and operational treatments with City and County Open Space Programs have demonstrated significant increases in desirable species richness, pollinator habitat, and wildlife habitat. As invasive annual grasses and other noxious weeds continue to negatively impact CO open space properties, we have identified new tools and management options to increase restoration success and promote many of these positive ecosystem services.
Participants will:
- Become better equipped to manage noxious broadleaf weeds and invasive winter annual grasses over the long-term.
- Understand the significance of managing the noxious weed seed bank.
- Better understand what sites to prioritize management knowing the constraints of time and resources.
